In May 2018, the Government announced its commitment to a competitive automotive sector in Australia, by ensuring a level playing field for all participants – repairers, consumers, dealers, and manufacturers. This includes providing independent repairers with fair access to the information they need to do their job.
The Government has released exposure draft legislation for the mandatory motor vehicle service and repair information sharing scheme for consultation.
To support this measure, it is expected that a joint industry-led organisation will be tasked to perform functions including assisting with mediation services and reporting on the scheme’s operation. In addition, the Government recently announced a one-off, $250,000 grant to deliver online resources to facilitate the sharing of motor vehicle service and repair information.
