The Government intends to wind down the cheques system in Australia by no later than 2030, with government use to be phased out by the end of 2028.
This consultation paper will help the Government understand the opportunities and challenges in transitioning away from the cheques system in a smooth and orderly manner. Feedback will help determine the best path forward so that adverse impacts to consumers and businesses are minimised.
