The Treasury has released for public consultation exposure draft Regulations and accompanying explanatory materials designed to give effect to the Government's 2011-12 Budget measure, Tax compliance – reporting taxable payments.
The measure introduces a reporting regime requiring certain businesses in the building and construction industry to report annually to the Australian Taxation Office the details of payments made to contractors in the building and construction industry.
On 30 May 2011 the Government released a consultation paper, 'Reporting of taxable payments for contractors in the building and construction industry'. Following this, a 'bridging paper' was released on 21 September 2011 to further consider and seek industry views.
